HBO COMEDY SERIES EASTBOUND & DOWN RETURNS FOR AN ALL NEW SECOND SEASON PREMIERING APRIL 5 ON HBO SIGNATURE IN ASIA

PHILIPPINES, MARCH 14 2011 – The HBO comedy series EASTBOUND & DOWN returns for a brand new seven-episode second season premiering in Asia on Tuesday, April 5 at 10pm on HBO Signature with two episodes airing back-to-back.

Starring Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express), EASTBOUND & DOWN tells the story of Kenny Powers, who used to be a star pitcher until his self-destructive behaviour knocked him out of Major League Baseball. In the first season of the series, he returned home to North Carolina to teach Physical Education at the middle school he once attended, and eventually scored another big-league job offer.

At 19, Kenny Powers was handed the “keys to the kingdom” after dramatically pitching his team to a World Series win. Fame, endorsements, a lucrative contract, obsessed fans … Kenny indeed had it all. But a few years later, after hard living and complacency had taken its toll on his fastball – and one-too-many inflammatory diatribes had eroded his fan base – Kenny found himself out of baseball, a has-been discarded by the game he abused so well.

When we last checked in on Kenny, a season-long exile teaching Phys Ed at his old high school in North Carolina had come to an abrupt end when Kenny learned he was being brought back up to the big leagues by Tampa Bay, only to discover the offer had been rescinded.

Humiliated and unwilling to share the bad news with brother Dustin (John Hawkes) and his family, Kenny left town, leaving April (who’d agreed to accompany him to Tampa) stewing at a gas station. As season two opens, Kenny’s romance with April and his big-league comeback may have been derailed, but his arrogance and bruised-but-still-potent ego will serve him well as he starts a new life in Mexico… taking on the identity of Stevie Janowski.

In addition to the real Stevie, who tracks him down through a credit-card trail, Kenny will mingle with an assortment of new characters, including baseball-team owner Sebastian Cisneros (Michael Peña), sultry lounge singer Vida (Ana de la Reguera), team manager Roger Hernandez (Marco Rodriguez), and local neighbors Catuey (Efren Ramirez) and Maria (Elizabeth De Razzo).

The six-episode first season of EASTBOUND & DOWN inspired critical praise, as well as devoted viewers. The Hollywood Reporter hailed EASTBOUND & DOWN as “sublimely hilarious,” and the Washington Post called it “the most recklessly funny comedy of the year.”

EASTBOUND & DOWN’s raucous comedy sparked a loyal and enthusiastic following that grew throughout the season, and we’re happy to bring the show back for more innings,” noted Lombardo. “It will be fun to see what happens to Kenny in season two.”

Shot this season primarily in Puerto Rico (as Mexico), EASTBOUND & DOWN is the brainchild of several of Hollywood’s top comedy minds, with executive producers including Will Ferrell, Adam McKay, Chris Henchy, Jody Hill and Danny McBride. McBride starred in director David Gordon Green’s All the Real Girls, winner of a 2003 Sundance Jury Prize, and teamed with Hill on the Sundance hit The Foot Fist Way, released in 2008. Green also directed McBride in Pineapple Express. McKay wrote and directed Step Brothers, Anchorman and Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Henchy, an Entourage writer/producer, wrote Land of the Lost (starring Ferrell and McBride); he runs Gary Sanchez Productions, a company co-founded with Ferrell and McKay, which launched Funnyordie.com.

  1. This series was so funny!! I was lucky to have my employee subscription to DISH Network and not a company like DirecTV because they don't offer HBO Comedy in HD. I love movies and shows that have to do with Americans in Mexico because my dad is from Mexico and my mother from the U.S. so I can see the humor in both sides.
