CCP Archives Are Being Restored Digitally by EMC

The Cultural Center of the Philippines or CCP has been the source of Philippine Culture and Arts since its foundation in 1969. Today, it housed countless of scripts, music pieces, reels of films and performances that took place, all formats of tapes (audio and video), documentaries, art including paintings, sculptures, photographs and a lot more. This place CCP in a huge task in restoring these timeless works because time is simply not on anyone side when it comes to preservation of these treasures.

The digital procedure is currently ongoing and I was given opportunity to witness it in the CCP Library archives. They are currently starting with the transferring of old movies of the classic film makers  because, unlike paper, the films are mostly in critical shape. The movie will be recorded digitally in avi format which is the lightest video format. The whole procedure of digital restoration of all old archives will painstakingly take at least 3 years but the procedure will continue because there will be new works of expressions will be made from time to time. The digitally restored heritages will also be available online but the copyrighted works may require the permission of the owner/s. The files will be installed in a single server located in the CCP Library. The server is an EMC Celerra NS-120 Storage System. EMC is assured that this will serve well because when it comes to security threats like a system crash or a virus, this is a US certified in performance. Also present during the launch was Mr. Raul Sunico and Mr. Chris Millado of CCP.
