Anak ng Pasig ka ba?

Civilizations began and lived prosperously because they have resources. The common denominator of those resources is the rivers that nourishes them. China has the Yangtze, Egypt has the Nile. Before that, the Garden of Eden had four rivers running through it. The former empire Babylon, now Iraq, has the Tigris-Euphrates. It's no wonder why Metro Manila was looked upon by other regions for hope of new life. Metro Manila has Pasig River.

I recall archives of old Manila photos showing Pasig River with flowing clear water. On October 10, 2010, the crusade for Pasig River continues. As we desire for a cleaner and "no pollution" Pasig River, we are called to help out again. The Run for Pasig River is a worthy cause. We invite all people from all walks of life to join. Let's not be consumed by our petty differences.

We will unite once again with common interests. The 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River needs to reached its target number of runners of 101,010. From four starting points in Manila, Taguig, Pasay Marikina will all converged in a finish line in SM Mall of Asia as we Filipinos once again unite to celebrate this worthy cause. If you are an "Anak Ng Pasig" like me, please support and help promote this campaign. Hopefully, this generation will see the Pasig River alive again.

This is a continuous effort by Kapit Bisig Para sa Ilog Pasig pioneered by ABS-CBN foundation. They just launched the MALINAW advocacy last April 15, 2010.

Sign up for the 10.10.10 Run for Pasig River while the slots are still open.

On 10.10.10. Save the date! Save the Pasig River!

Movie Review:Kick Ass

When I first saw the poster, I thought it was a spoofed Watchmen. It had the same shade. But when I saw the trailer, it was not like I expected for an R-18 movie. I was informed that it is based on a comic book. I was never updated with new comic book titles until I was told that it is still 9 issues fresh. I was surprised. I never expected a new comic book title with already had a movie in mind. If you have Mark Millar(Wanted) and John Romita,Jr.(of Marvel Comics) who are the creators, it would be a sure movie hit. Casting new actors are also good for the film. These young ones have promising careers ahead especially Chloe Moretz. Nicholas Cage is alright here since he is not taking the spotlight away from fellow casts.

Spoiler!

Spoiler Alert!!

Alert!!! Spoiler!!!!

Cage plays Big Daddy, a costumed vigilante with sidekick/daughter Hitgirl, played by Chloe Moretz which I found exciting and disturbing at the same time. There's a reason why this was rated R. The violence in the film is really not for kids. The father-daughter relationship they have is the most weird. No father would raise a child like that. Unless insane. It was also a thought to me that Big Daddy/Damon Macready was no ordinary former cop. With his skills and how he trained his daughter, he looks more like a SWAT. The movie was an open ending. It was not sure if there's a sequel or not but as long as the comic book series is still running, I can only hope for the sequel.

Adobo@Night April 23, 2010

It was a great night despite the hot temperature we are having for the event but nothing stopped people from going because it was for a noble cause: To help promote awareness of cervical cancer and help out women who have cervical cancer. The event took place at On Cue Theatre, a mobile theatre that I really find cool. It's an inflatable structure that can be placed anywhere.

Adobo Magazine, the leading magazine on advertising hosts this event that will send the proceeds for the cause for cervical cancer.

The evening started with Adobo Magazine's editor-in-chief Angel Guerrero welcomes and thanking everyone joining this worthy cause and promotes the Sahara Network, the group that promotes advocacy for cervical cancer.

We were also briefed about cervical cancer. Second breast cancer, cervical cancer kills 10 Filipino women everyday.Worldwide, a woman dies of cervical cancer every 2 minutes. But the most relevant I learned here that the disease not only kills an individual specifically a woman, but affects other lives as well. Because cervical cancer also kills relationships. It may be your wife, mother, sister, a friend, etc.

Before viewing each film. we viewed the top advertisements for the past 10 years.

The first filmed viewed was Enkwentro by Pepe Diokno. A story that takes place in an unrevealed slum area where a city was governed by a ruthless official who has a death squad on his payroll. This story tells a sad reality mirrors the reality we have. Good example was Maguindanao.

The second film was by known director Erik Matti, The Arrival. A comedy of an ordinary man who left his job and decided spontaneously  for a new a new life somewhere far in a province he's not familiar with.

The last film was a Cinema One original,Yanggaw by Richard Somes, who was  the only filmmaker present during the event. Yanggaw is an Ilonggo term for aswang. Yes, this is a horror story that made us not sleep early.Starring Ronnie Lazaro and Tetchie Agbayani.

Weee! SM Supermalls launches Winema

Movie watching won't be the same again as SM unveils Winema, a new innovation on watching a movie interactively. I was privilege to get invited for this opportunity to be among the first last night(April 22, 2010).

We were first oriented how the interactive cinema works.  We were also instructed as we going to participate. A game will be loaded on the screen and the sensor in front will notice the movements of the audience's arms as it wave to the designated direction. The seats are also designed for the viewer to receive the intensity of the movie as it vibrates. This is something to look forward to since Iron Man 2 will be showing soon.

See how it goes. Note:Pardon the clarity of the picture below. We were not allowed to use  flash while the game is on because it might disrupt the sensor.

The press launch was hosted by SM's Sharon Yu

The Run Towards "The North Face 100"

Summer is almost halfway and there's a reason why you should spend it in Baguio and it's not only because it's the "Summer Capital of the Philippines." Because North Face is bringing back The North Face 100 in Baguio on April 24 -25, 2010. On it's third year, The Thrill of The Trail will be just as challenging.  TNF 100 will require you to make a tour on Baguio's famous landmarks like Camp John Hay, PMA and Burnham Park. The challenging path may be uphill compared to the streets of Manila but the run will worth your time since the environment is more fresher and less pollution. No place is better for a run than this. I guarantee. You have a choice to run for 11K, 22K, 50K or 100K as you test and dare your endurance in the streets of Baguio at approximately 6,000+ ft.  above sea level. The trail running will not only benefit you healthwise but will also benefit you from making new acquaintances for you to gain.

Movie Review: Shutter Island

I am not a fan of Leo DiCaprio. But after being able to be part of movies like "The Man In The Iron Mask", I can see that he can also be choosy in roles. Most of the movies I see after that are really good. I just thought that after Titanic, he really is a serious professional actor. The movie I am featuring is no exception. The movie was a work by veteran director, Martin Scorsese. Most movie buffs who are familiar of Scorsese may recognized the background music from the start as his trademark. Most viewers should be prepared for Scorsese's brand of suspense-thriller. It will make you feel that your brain is twisting as the movie progresses.

Spoiler!

Spoiler Alert!!

Alert Spoiler!!!

It was my first time to see Leo DiCaprio as a fallen character here. He may also pass as a tragic one. But that was the twist that make a climax essential.

War Games-LazerXtreme style

If you are a child back in the 80's, you maybe familiar with Lazer Tag. For those of you haven't, imagine this: playing playing Halo 3 for real! LazerXtreme, Manila's first Laser Tag arena, made that possible. How? You will be briefed with  a short video about the arena's rules of play and how to equip the vest and proper use of the laser gun attached to your vest.

The options are either free play or team play. Each round will run for 15 minutes. Once briefed, the door will open for the arena and you have less than a minute to position yourself strategically anywhere in the arena and the sensors and the laser becomes active. Once it's active, you will ave the longest 15 minutes of your life. You will shoot opposing players aimed at their sensors. Each player has active sensors to receive the laser's shot at the front back and the gun itself. Once hit, you will be inactive for 3 seconds. The equipment are also monitored individually throughout the whole round. After the round, you are required to leave the arena for the results of the round. You will be given individual evaluation sheets so you may know how many shots you fired, how many you hit, how many players you tagged, and how many hits you receive from each sensor you are wearing. LazerXtreme also has a lounge for dining purposes and a cafe.

Game Rates:
Regular rates:
Mon-Thurs PhP170 per person/game
Suceeding games 150. per person/game

Fri-Sun: 190. per person/game
Succeeding games 170. per person/game

Maximum of 30 players per game.

Exclusive rates:
Php4,760.00 for 30 players per game from Mon-Thurs.
5320.00 for 30 players per game from Fri-Sun.

What I like about this is the thrill and excitement when playing. You will feel the adrenaline rush inside you and have fun. But also be cautioned if you are not fit(meaning if you don't get exercises). You may going to have body aches the next day. I advise doing stretching first on your wake up routines.

LazerXtreme is located on Market Market!, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig. Watch out for the launch of a bigger LazerXtreme and more games at Alabang Town Center soon. For details, contact (632)8566467 or +639178529379. You can e-mail them at info@lazerxtreme.com.ph Check their website www.lazerxtreme.com.ph
