US Trained Coach Jim Saret leads Run Against Time

Sports Training and Fitness Consultant for the Phil. Olympic Committee Coach Jim Saret shared how to maintain youthful energy as we grow older last August 21, 2010 at Bonifacio High Street. If you are already in your late 20's and above, you already reach your somatopausal years meaning you already have the feeling of diminishing vigor along the appearance of wrinkles and signs of aging.
Coach Jim

Back in those days of exploration, there were quests for the fabled fountain of youth. Coach Jim reveals how to find your own fountain of youth. First, is not to worry about it. Too much worrying can make you look older. Second, is to have a regular habit of staying physically fit. Third, is having a healthy lifestyle like balanced diet, workout and Immuvit.
Coach Jim leads an exercise demo

Immuvit is a multivitamin supplement that has two powerful ginsengs: Korean RPC Ginseng and Siberian Ginseng as well as CoQ10. According to Coach Jim, According to Coach Jim, "CoQ10 is naturally produced by our body and plays a key role in producing energy as well as cell growth and maintenance. It is also an antioxidant that protects the body from damage caused by free radicals. As we get older, our bodies produces less CoQ10 and our energy starts to dwindle and our immune system slows down." Coach Jim believes that CoQ10 is our own fountain of youth. If you see Coach Jim, he really looks younger than his true age and this is his secret.

Coach Jim also demonstrated some exercises that we can do for workout to maintain that youthful energy. He, along with some people who also came prepared, made a Run Against Time around Bonifacio High Street.

Mead Johnson Nutrition's 42nd Anniversary

Mead Johnson Nutrition, celebrated it's 42nd anniversary last July 19, 2010 at their office in Pasong Tamo, Makati. They also presented an advocacy to promote awareness campaign about Orphan's disease. It is called 'orphan' because patients with these diseases currently are not getting enough support. There are currently about 41 children in the country who suffer from rare metabolic diseases such as Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD), Phenylketonuria (PKU), and Methyl Malonic Acidemia (MMA). Some of the patients will be present during the event. Not a lot of people know about these diseases so when patients are brought to physicians, they are usually in the late stages already. If they are not detected and treated early enough, the children will either be mentally retarded or worse they will die. I was able to watch the video and I realized that the bubbly toddler I played with during the event was one of those children with orphan's disease when I saw a video about it. I also got to interact  with the mother of the child. Also present was DSWD Secretary Soliman and presidential sister Ballsy Aquino-Cruz. The presence of the DSWD secretary marks their partnership with Mead Johnson Nutrition for this campaign and advocacy to prevent orphan's disease.  One of their programs is to coordinate with DSWD is educating communities about orphan's disease.

New Series Premieres in HBO Asia

HBO CELEBRATES WOMEN THIS AUGUST
Watch brand new series UNITED STATES OF TARA and NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY back to back this month on HBO / HBO HD

PHILIPPINES, 18 august 2010 – Two highly anticipated series will premiere back to back August 30 on HBO / HBO HD, starting with the award-winning UNITED STATES OF TARA at 10pm and the HBO Original Series NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY at 11pm:

UNITED STATES OF TARA
  • Premieres with two seasons back to back on Monday, August 30 at 10pm, with new episodes weekly

Suburban wife and mother Tara Gregson juggles her family and career while suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder. It’s never a dull moment in the Gregson household as various identities may appear on any given day – and range from “T”, a flirtatious and spunky teenager, to “Buck,” a gun-loving male alter – all while her supportive husband Max and their two teenage children, Kate and Marshall, try to lead as much of a “normal” life as possible.

Executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Diablo Cody (Oscar® winning screenwriter for Juno) who also created and wrote the series, Cody reveals that the subtext of the series is really about women in today’s society, most of whom are trying – sometimes in vain – to juggle all their responsibilities simultaneously. But it’s not just about the women and mothers: UNITED STATES OF TARA is, overall, a tribute to family and how, together, they overcome obstacles of all kinds. Spielberg and Cody are joined by DreamWorks producing partners Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank, and fellow executive producer, Alexa Junge (Friends).

The complexities of Tara and her alters are brought to life by Toni Collette, who won both an Emmy® and Golden Globe® award for her outstanding lead role in this series. John Corbett plays Max, her loving husband of almost 20 years, who tries to keep up with Tara’s alters. Sarcastic and rebellious daughter Kate, played by Brie Larson, and tender-hearted bookworm son Marshall, played by Keir Gilchrist, have learned to cope with their mother’s unpredictable personalities. Rosemarie DeWitt is Tara’s insecure sister, Charmaine, who cannot accept Tara’s condition and envies the attention her sister has received from it.

NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY
  • Premieres with a 2-hour pilot episode on Monday, August 30 at 11pm, with new hour-long episodes weekly at the same time

Based on the international bestselling novels by Alexander McCall Smith, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency stars Grammy Award winner Jill Scott, Anika Noni Rose and Lucian Msamati. Filmed in Botswana, this HBO series chronicles the adventures of Precious Ramotswe, an eminently sensible and wise proprietor of the only female-owned detective agency in Botswana. Aided by her highly efficient yet rather peculiar secretary Grace Makutsi, Precious investigates cases, helps people solve problems in their lives, and begins a special friendship with JLB Matekoni, the highly respectable owner of a garage.

Directed by the late Anthony Minghella (Oscar® winner for The English Patient), the two-hour pilot for THE NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY serves as the first episode of the HBO series. Executive producers of the pilot were the late Sydney Pollack (Oscar® winner for Out of Africa), Richard Curtis (Emmy® winner for HBO’s The Girl in the Café), Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein. Anthony Minghella, Timothy Bricknell and Amy J. Moore served as producers on the pilot. The Emmy®-nominated series is now under the supervision of Richard Curtis, who also wrote the screenplay for the pilot with Anthony Minghella. New episodes of THE NO. 1 LADIES’ DETECTIVE AGENCY are written by Nicholas Wright and Robert Jones, and directed by Charles Sturridge and Tim Fywell. The new episodes are once again produced by Timothy Bricknell and executive produced by Richard Curtis, Amy J. Moore, Bob Weinstein and Harvey Weinstein

BANANA LEAF REMAINS STEADFAST BY BANKING ON ITS STRENGTH

When Banana Leaf opened its doors to the public in 2001 they were the first to offer South East Asian cuisine and to this day they are the only restaurant that offers Malaysian, Singaporean, Indian, Vietnamese and Thai dish under one roof. Their unfair advantage, authentic South East Asian food whose main ingredients are sourced from their country of origin and prepared by Asian chefs day in and day out.
Other restaurants will just hire local chefs to prepare a menu and standardized it but Banana Leaf wants to stay true to the South East Asian tradition thus they made an investment with their expat chefs.  This makes every visit to Banana Leaf a unique dining experience.
Through the years other restaurants had sprung up offering fusion Asian cuisine but Banana Leaf has remained undaunted in its strength.  They have curved a niche in the market and is now the leading chain for South East Asian cuisine.  Their efforts did not go unnoticed because they have been consistently awarded as one of the best restaurants in the Metro since 2004 by The Philippine Tatler (an esteemed magazine publication).
It is a common sight to see Asian expats at Banana Leaf, alongside business people and travelers.  They have been the restaurants advocate in promoting their brand to others who are less adventurous gastronomically speaking..  They have also been one of the reasons that that the business kept afloat despite the numerous economic crisis that has beset our count.  In fact Banana Leaf. was blessed with 6 outlets “Banana Leaf” and “Banana Leaf Asian Cafe" and has diversified its business into catering and delivery.
According to James Aguilar Banana Leaf General Manager, the company’s goal of serving authentic south east Asian flavor through sourcing of ingredients from the appropriate home countries, strategic locations on different malls, together with competitiveness with pricing is their recipe in their business.  Banana Leaf adopted serving sizes and offers both serve to-share portions and single serving dishes, the average tab per person is PHP250.  Banana Leaf Asian Cafe now offers set meals and rice toppings to better cater for individuals especially during lunch time.
Today Banana Leaf has renovated most of its branches, their restaurants are very open and warm with murals depicting Asian culture. The objective is to widen their market and allow more Filipinos to open their taste buds to the wonders of South East Asian dishes. Making South East Asian cuisine a viable choice alongside its Chinese and Japanese counterparts.
The people behind Banana Leaf is even more optimistic now with the new government, hopefully the changes promised will really be felt by the people for a better buying power which  in turn will benefit businesses.

SNEAK PEEK: “GOING THE DISTANCE”

Justine Long and Drew Barrymore in a scene from Going The Distance

Drew Barrymore and Justin Long share a long-distance love affair in New Line Cinema’s new romantic comedy Going the Distance.

In the film, Erin’s (Barrymore) wry wit and unfiltered frankness charm newly single Garrett (Long) over beer, bar trivia and breakfast the next morning.  Their chemistry sparks a full-fledged summer fling, but neither expects it to last once Erin heads home to San Francisco and Garrett stays behind for his job in New York City.  But when six weeks of romping through the city inadvertently become meaningful, neither is sure they want it to end.

And while Garrett’s friends, Box (Jason Sudeikis) and Dan (Charlie Day), joke about his pre-flight calorie-cutting and his full-time relationship with his cell phone, they don’t like losing their best drinking buddy to yet another rocky romance.

At the same time, Erin’s high-strung, overprotective married sister, Corrine (Christina Applegate), wants to keep Erin from heading down an all-too-familiar road.

But despite the opposite coasts, the nay-saying friends and family, and a few unexpected temptations, the couple just might have found something like love, and with the help of a lot of texting, sexting and late-night phone calls, they might actually go the distance.

Academy Award®-nominated documentary filmmaker Nanette Burstein (On the Ropes) makes her feature film directorial debut with Going the Distance.  The film is written by Geoff LaTulippe.

Burstein’s behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Eric Steelberg (Up in the Air), production designer Kevin Kavanaugh (Whip It), editor Peter Teschner (Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan), costume designer Catherine Marie Thomas (The Proposal) and composer Mychael Danna ((500) Days of Summer).

Opening soon across the Philippines, Going the Distance is a New Line Cinema production, and distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company

Moview Review: Vampire Suck

I am not much on spoofs except if it's a smart spoof like Mel Brooks did or Monty Python. From the makers of Scary Movies, Vampire Suck is a vampire spoof flick that focused more on the Twilight Saga not on the vampire genre as a whole. Though I am not a fan of the Twilight saga, I could not help but also find the movie amusing because it not just ridicule the Twilight Saga but also the its fanaticism as well.

About the casting. I never expected they can get actors fit to resemble the Twilight actors in their respective characters in a more comical manner like Jenn Proske, in her first movie and major role, plays the role of Becca and is able to spoof Kristen Stewart's Bella well as if she was her stunt double.

Although the audience can find the humor funny because of it's slapstick comedy but it will be funnier if the viewer already watches the Twilight movies specifically, Twilight and New Moon.
