Now on Twitter: 140 Characters for Users’ Replies

Press release

31 March 2017 -  Twitter just rolled out another update on providing more ways for users to let them express more with 140 characters. The company introduced two updates last year, and today another update is being rolled out. Now, when users reply to someone or a group, those @usernames won't count toward their Tweet's 140 characters.

With this change, conversations will be simplified in a few ways:
●      Who users are replying to will appear above the Tweet text rather than within the Tweet text itself, so they have more characters to have conversations.

●      Users can tap on “Replying to…” to easily see and control who’s part of their conversation.

●      When reading a conversation, users will actually see what people are saying, rather than seeing lots of @usernames at the start of a Tweet.

It’s now easier to follow a conversation, so users can focus on what a discussion is about, and who is having it. Also, with all 140 characters for the replies, users have more room to participate in group conversations.

Sasank Reddy, Product Manager, Twitter; stated that, “The updates we’re making today are based on feedback from all of you as well as research and experimentation. In our tests of this new experience, we found that people engage more with conversations on Twitter.”

More details about how replies work can be found in Twitter’s help center. This update is rolling out now on twitter.com as well as on Twitter for iOS and Android. Users need to update their app to check it out. Tagalog version of the instructional video can be downloaded here.

Shakey's Upgraded: Digital Makeover by Microsoft Philippines

For us Pinoys, pizza is always synonymous with Shakey’s as the pioneer pizza parlor in the Philippines. For years, it provided venues for hanging out, band music, children’s party or simply just pigging out. With the increase number of competitors through the years, Shakey’s is still in operation.

Mr. Cian O’Neill, COO and CMO of Microsoft Philippines
Mauch Franco, Shakey’s Philippines, CIO
Jorge Concepcion, Shakey’s Philippines, GM.

But there is a new phase that needs to be done. Now that the world has gone digital, there are concerns and demands than needs to be attended. In order for Shakey’s to accommodate the demands of the millennial guests, Shakey’s need to adapt to the change.

This is where Microsoft Philippines cues in. In my previous posts about Microsoft, I keep mentioning about Data Privacy Act and the Cloud Management and now, here is one practical example. The data guests key in is assured that it is all secured especially when they input personal data for identification using Microsoft Azure.

There are no changes with the pizza or their services. The only thing that changed was their operating system in the Cloud to make it more accessible and easy. It is Microsoft's mission to help businesses adapt for the digital age. For more tech stories, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.

AirAsia produces webisodes Red Talks with Daphne

We usually are drawn to photos of people who are able to visit tourist destinations not just locally but also abroad. When we saw these photos, we are determined to find out more about the place but most of the time, we cannot get much information.
Pilot episode viewed on a movie screen

Red Talks with Daphne is a series of webisodes produced by AirAsia featuring travel destinations around destinations where AirAsia usually goes. Hosted by our very own Daphne Osena-Paez, the pilot episode starts with AirAsia and its owner Tony Fernades.

Daphne Osena-Paez with the AirAsia flight attendants
After learning about Mr. Fernades and AirAsia, Daphne will tour Kuala Lumpur’s historical locations and the silversmiths outside from places not usually listed in your itineraries. What makes this webisodes good is that it is like a travel magazine only more visual and it can be viewed online at AirAsia Facebook page.
The L.E.N.S. Blogger  with Ms. Daphne Osena-Paez

The good thing about putting a series of talk shows about travel in a Facebook page, you can view it again and again whenever you are online and most of the netizens are in Facebook. Plus, you can also comment about the episode.

My Personal Insights about Data Privacy Act

Ever since the world has gone digital with the advent of internet, our lives are never the same. Our lifestyle is already hooked online. Since information is also considered an investment, we also need to secure our data since there are already threats in cyberspace because of hackers. There are already incidents of websites and information hacked from biggest companies that we never imagined. We only thought that this only happen in the movies like Hackers back in the 90’s.

Microsoft's Herns Hermida presents solutions for data prrivacy
The government is also concerned about this which is why the Digital Privacy Act was implemented and with coordination of IT companies like Microsoft Philippines will aim to provide solutions to the threat. During the briefing I attended, I was also concerned because if this can happen to big companies and institutions, what can some smaller scale companies and websites can do.

As a small scale consumer, it also disturbs me that because everything is digital. Microsoft makes this their commitment to the consumers. They suggested that we should go put everything in the cloud. Microsoft has their own Cyber Ops Center and servers spread all over the globe.

The tools is already available since almost all already have Windows 10, businesses can rely on Microsoft products like Office 365 and Azure to help secure information privacy. For more tech insights, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.

LIVE THE ULTIMATE DANCER’S LIFE AT BP DANCE SCHOOL’S SUMMER DANCE WORKSHOP FROM APRIL 17 TO MAY 21

Press release

Summer can be the most crucial time for a budding ballerina’s career. While most children are on vacations or staycations, the pupils of Ballet Philippines Dance School are hard at work. Three to five times a week, they fill their days with classes in classical ballet, modern dance, jazz, hip hop, and even lectures – all geared towards guiding them towards becoming full-fledged dance artists.

Classical ballet is a time-honored dance form that teaches grace, precision, and expression - a tradition that the BPDS has passed on through its programs that incorporates the Philippine National Ballet Syllabus to generations of dance students. Classical ballet encourages freedom of expression, builds confidence and self-discipline, and develops a sense of individuality, which would grow into an appreciation for the arts.

Modern dance explores dance movements beyond the set boundaries of classical ballet, incorporating influences from day-to-day movements, folk dances, martial arts and other sports, as well as contemporary/popular dance. Modern serves as a laboratory for emerging dancers and choreographers, allowing the discovery of new artists in dance.

Staying on top of the latest in popular dance, the Ballet Philippines Dance School also offers courses in Hip Hop and Jazz dance. Students discover different rhythms and grooves of movement, shaping them into becoming well-rounded dancers.

The Summer Dance Workshop also offers a weekly Lecture Series, in keeping with the BP Dance School’s holistic approach to dance education. Through these sit-down talks, students have the opportunity to interact with artists of different fields and learn how aspects of their art form can relate to and enhance one’s dancing.

The 48th CCP Summer Dance Workshop starts on April 17, 2016 at BPDS-SM Aura Premier and on April 18, 2016 at BPDS-CCP. Students attend a minimum of 3 classes a week (for pre-ballet and elementary ballet students) to as much as 5 classes a week, including workshop rehearsals for its culminating performances at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater) on May 20 and 21.

Summer classes will also be held in the newly opened BP Dance School branches in Greenhills Theatre Mall and Victoria Sports, Quezon City. Classes start on April 4 and end on May 31.

The Ballet Philippines Dance School is the professional training ground of the country’s most promising young talents in dance. With a unique curriculum that encompasses various dance styles and techniques, the systematized method and approach to instruction takes highly into account children’s anatomy and psyche at various ages and levels so that the training is physically safe, technically effective and artistically enriching for all students.
