and #LoveHappens Emoji to Celebrate Valentine’s Day


Manila, 12 February 2017 - Twitter shows what's happening in the world. And often #LoveHappens on Twitter. In the last year, people Tweeted the word “love” more than 2.5 billion times globally. To celebrate Valentine’s day and how #LoveHappens on Twitter, the company has launched a set of stickers and a brand new emoji for 2017. People just need to use  #LoveHappens hashtag and the emoji will appear in the Tweet. The emoji can be used starting today until February 20.

Aside form #LoveHappens, other hashtags that Twitter users can use to unlock the new emoji and to spread love are: #bemyvalentine#bemine#candyhearts#valentinesday#hugsandkisses#secretadmirer#SinglesDay#sweetheart#thatslove#valentine#valentines#valentinesday2017#whoneedsavalentine#willyoubemyvalentine#loveontwitter.

In December 2016, Filipinos flocked on Twitter to show their love and support for independent Filipino films. People flooded Twitter with #ExtendtheMMFF together with the movie titles such as #Seklusyon#SavingSally and #Diebeautiful to call the attention of cinema owners and asked them to extend the showing of 2016 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

In November 2016, dad @GrumpyCarer in the UK needed to find a discontinued @tommeetippee_UK cup for his autistic son and he turned to Twitter for help. The response was heartwarming.

And some people have fallen in love because of Twitter. Filipino couple Rona Samson (@rownita) and Eric Tai (@ERUPTION23) met through Twitter. Eric was a host on a local noon time show, while Rona is a fan of the show. She used Twitter to reach out and  communicate with Eric Tai and asked for on-air greetings. This is where their relationship started and blossomed into life-affirming love. Rona and Eric exchanged vows and tied the knot in 2015.
