A
welcome addition to George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage Site of George
Town in Penang today welcomes the latest addition to its hotel accommodation
offering for tourists and visitors with the grand opening of the Armenian
Street Heritage Hotel by Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
The ceremony was attended by Group CEO of
Tune Hotels, Mark Lankester and Armenian Street Heritage Hotel Directors Dato’
Yong Chai Seng, Datin Lau Geok Choon, Dr Koh Hwa Cheah, Dato’ Ting Tin Siang
and Dato’ Kelvin Leng. Also present was Penang Executive Councillor for Tourism
Mr Danny Law.
The opening comes in timely as the country
celebrates Visit Malaysia Year 2014, the biggest and grandest tourism celebration
with Malaysia Truly Asia's endless wonders of events, festivals and activities
all-year round.
The hotel is strategically located within
the Core Zone of the George Town heritage site, which together with the
historical city of Melaka were declared world heritage sites by UNESCO in 2008,
in recognition of their unique status as multicultural heritage communities,
fostering and benefiting from the rich cultural exchanges between East and
West.
The Armenian Street Heritage Hotel is one
of more than 1,700 buildings that stand within the Core Area of the World
Heritage Site. Offering guests an experience of the old world charm
hospitality, the Armenian Street Heritage Hotel features a viewing deck on the
top floor, allowing guests to enjoy the scenery of almost the entire heritage
area right up to the coast line of the Penang island.
The hotel also serves as an extension of
the George Town World Heritage Incorporated (GTWHI) office, which is located
right next to the hotel. GTWHI will have the largest model of the heritage area
to be displayed at an area covering 1,500 sq. ft. on the second floor of the
Armenian Street Heritage Hotel. The gallery will be open to tourists, members
of the public and anyone who would like to learn more about George Town World
Heritage Site.
Just
steps away from the heritage trails of museums, temples, eateries and the world
famous street paintings by Ernest Zacharevic, the Armenian Street Heritage
Hotel is a perfect accommodation choice for any visitor to Penang.
Located at 139, Lebuh Carnarvon, the hotel
is managed by international hotel brand Tune Hotels. The hotel offers 92
rooms of various sizes, fitted out in heritage style and equipped with modern
amenities to suit families, couples as well as solo travellers.
