NCR Dominates Palarong Pambansa 2012

The Palarong Pambansa ended last Saturday, May 12, 2012. The National Capital Region(NCR) earned most points bags the mosts medals. NCR had combined(In Secondary and Elementary) points of 733 as well as 245 medals. Second to NCR were Western Visayas and Southern Tagalog on third. Palarong Pambansa 2012 Highlights

Just before the opening ceremony, there were individual categories that was occurring. During the press conference at the Capitol Resort, Archery was ongoing in its premises. That night. I was able to meet the NCR delegates with Bro. Armin Luistro, Secretary for Department of Education. I was able to greet the kids, asking them what are they playing, where are they from in the Metro. I felt instrumental lifting their spirits before the big day.

The opening day: It was scheduled Sunday the sixth but it was moved the following day. Everyone was anticipating the day at Narciso Stadium. Patrons were lining up for inspection as well as the media for official media stickers for their camera straps. The ceremony started with a colorful festival presentation from the host province. After the presentation, the majority were awaiting the parade of regional delegates in their distinctive uniformed colors that represents them. Each region has their own gimmicks to catch attention.

After the parade along the oval, the delegates line up in front of the stage to give respects to the national anthem and for the prayer followed by the pledge of sportsmanship. Even though it was a hot day, all present were not hindered for the ceremony. Bro. Armin and the nation's president, Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III gave their messages for the delegates. The  next part about Palarong Pambansa will be the some participants that you should watch out for. Also present were former President and Pangasinan local Fidel V. Ramos and former mayor of Pagsanjan,  ER Ejercito.

Press Conference of Palarong Pambansa 2012 Coverage

May 6, 2012. Sunday. Capitol Resort, Lingayen, Pangasinan. Just a day before the opening of Palarong Pambansa, a press conference about 2012 Palarong Pambansa took place in Capitol Resort in Lingayen, Pangasinan. Just a day before, a mass and Governor's  night by Honorable was held in honor of the delegates of Palarong Pambansa 2012.

Pangasinan Governor, Honorable Amado Espina Jr. hosted this event to welcome the delegates who came from all over the country. Bro. Armin Luistro, Secretary for Department of Education, emphasizes that the Palarong Pambansa is not just a competitive event but an event to make one thankful that we are all Filipinos regardless of which region or division they belong.

Bro. Armin adds  that the purpose of this event is to showcase the best in Filipino. With cooperation of the Sports Development of Pangasinan, Phil. Olympic Commission, Phil. Sports Association, the screening and accreditation process ensures that the Palarong Pambansa will be a clean competitive event. This will ensure that the participating delegates must have a good academic records as well as medical certification to verify that they are fit.

DepEd, Pangasinan ready to open 2012 Palaro

The Department of Education has completed the preparations for the 2012 Palarong Pambansa and is all set to kick off the national sporting event in Lingayen, Pangasinan tomorrow, May 6.



“We are confident to say that all necessary arrangements have been secured to make this year’s Palaro truly remarkable and successful,” DepEd Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said. The Secretary also promised a clean, green, and hi-tech Palaro this year.



DepEd tasked the National Screening and Accreditation Committee to facilitate the screening and accreditation of athletes and coaches using stricter implementation of the guidelines.



The provincial government of Pangasinan promises to provide tight security inside and outside the Palaro venues. A security officer will be assigned in every billeting quarter to monitor and ensure the safety of Palaro delegates.



Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino has also assigned a medical team from local hospitals to look after the athletes during the sports competitions.



As part of the preparations for the major sporting event, the provincial government of Pangasinan has partnered with DepEd in launching the new website for the 2012 Palaro. The new website boasts of its high functionality and uniqueness and promises to deliver the ‘most digital’ coverage in the history of Palaro,.



It features individual sports channels for 17 sports categories for live streaming with real time scoring and replays of the games. The Palaro 2012 TV will also be launched to showcase extraordinary stories of athletes and their journey at the Palaro, messages from guests, and other interesting stories.



The Palaro will use the breakthrough Social Media Command Center for faster response to queries and suggestions. The command center will serve as the central network of connection among participants and officials.

Pangasinan Hosts Governor's Night for Palarong Pambansa 2012

May 5, 2012. Sison Auditorium, Capitol Complex, Lingayen, Pangasinan. Pangasinan Local Government hosted a Governor's Night in Sison Auditorium last May 5, 2012. Coming from different regions across the nation,delegates were able to enjoy the food, live house music coming from the band and cultural presentation during the event.

The delegates were welcomed by Pangasinan Governor Hon. Amado Espino, Vice Governor Hon. Jose Ferdinand Calimlim  and Department of Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro. The opening of Palarong Pambansa will be held in Lingayen, Pangasinan on May 7, 2012.

New talents to rise in 2012 Palaro

For years, the Palarong Pambansa has never failed to produce notable athletes in different fields of sports. Some of them gained popularity not only in the country but also in the international sports scene. Athletes like Lydia de Vega and Dyan Castillejo serve as an inspiration to the many young athletes hoping to establish their own names in their respective sports.



Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC reiterated that Palarong Pambansa is more than just a national sports competition. “While we expect that Palarong Pambansa will boost regional pride among our competing regional athletic associations, to the athletes, joining the competition has a deeper meaning. It could be the first step to reaching their dreams in the world of sports since it opens many doors of opportunities to unfold their full potentials,” said Luistro.



The 2012 Palaro showcases a new roster of talents that may soon follow the tracks of legendary Filipino athletes.



Region XII takes pride on the achievements of its delegation most especially Jade Bornia in the field of boxing, Rachiel Paterno in 800 meter run athletics for elementary girls and Romnick Nor in 100 meter dash athletics for secondary level.



Mae Barit is no stranger in acquiring honors in the Palaro. Last year, she was declared as the gold medalist during the Athletics competition for secondary girls in Dapitan City, where she represented Region XI.



Jomel Renolayan shares the same story. He bagged the silver medal during last year’s Arnis competition for the full contact Extra Light weight category. He will still be competing for the same category this year representing his town, Albay, of Region V.



In Rhythmic Gymnastics, the match between two outstanding gymnasts from NCR, freshman student Arielle Nichole Orella, and Mary Carmelli Garovillo from Region 7, is something to watch out for. Orella is a consistent Palarong Pambansa Gold medalist since her elementary years while Garovillo, who had just graduated as salutatorian in elementary, was last year’s gold medalist and was a consistent winner in their region.



These are just a few of the many outstanding players that the nation will witness during the upcoming Palaro. Preparations, hard work and sacrifices will all boil down into a single fight that could possibly shape their future as athletes.

2012 Palaro athletes undergo strict screening procedure

To ensure fairness and honesty in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa, the screening and accreditation of athletes for the annual multi-sport event has started on April 28, led by the National Screening and Accreditation Committee (NSAC).



The committee is composed of 25 members, eight of which come from the Department of Education Central Office, and one authorized representative each from 17 participating regions.



Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali, Secretary General of 2012 Palaro, highlights the importance of the screening process, “we are strictly following the rules and guidelines for the screening and accreditation to make sure that the Palaro will be free from any controversy.”



NSAC has the duty to evaluate and verify the authenticity of the documents of athletes, coaches and chaperons as soon as the regional delegations are on their respective billeting quarters. Also, it is tasked to accredit qualified participants and formulate ground rules not covered by the guidelines on eligibility, as stated in Enclosure 3 of DepEd Memorandum No. 75,s. 2012.



To qualify for the Palarong Pambansa, athletes must be Filipino citizens, elementary or secondary from public or private schools who have participated in Division and Regional Meets.



As a general rule, elementary athletes shall play in the elementary division while secondary athletes shall play in the secondary division. Athletes who have been declared overage will not be allowed to play in the competition. However, elementary athletes who have been declared overage in elementary level may be allowed to play in secondary level.



Acquiring failing grades in more than two core subjects in the second grading period is also a ground for disqualification. Athletes who are past or current members of the National Team, National Training Pool and/or Development Pool, receiving monthly stipend from the Philippine Sports Commission or those who have played in SEA Games, ASEAN Games and/or Olympic Games, will not be allowed to compete.



NSAC shall consider replacements for disqualified athletes during the period of screening.



The screening and accreditation will end on May 3.

DepEd convenes officials for a more organized 2012 Palaro

The Department of Education announces the organizational structure of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa to ensure the smooth conduct of the annual national sporting event from May 6-12 in Pangasinan where more than 10,000 athletes and officials are expected to participate.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC will act as the Chairman of the Palarong Pambansa Board. The National Executive Committee and the Technical Management and Administration (TMA), composed of DepEd officials and regional directors are chaired by Undersecretary Rizalino Rivera and Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali, respectively.

This is in line with the pursuit of a clean and green Palaro as pronounced by Luistro during the signing of agreement between the department and the provincial government of Pangasinan, this year’s host.

Aside from maintaining the organized and systematic flow of events at the Palaro, TMA committees are expected to observe “no alcohol, no smoking, and no gambling” policies during the event. Luistro emphasizes, “Since we are aiming for a clean and green Palaro, sports officials should set a trend through leading by example.”

The 2012 Palarong Pambansa will be held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), Lingayen, Pangasinan. Elementary and high school student athletes from both public and private schools all over the country will be competing in different sporting events.

Registration of all members of the TMA shall be on May 2 while the required refresher course for all officiating officials will be on May 3-4.

The organizational structure of the 2012 Palarong Pambansa is contained in DepEd Memorandum No. 61, s. 2012.

Expect a clean and green 2012 Palarong Pambansa!

This is the pronouncement of Education Secretary Br. Armin Luistro FSC during the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the department and this year’s host the provincial government of Pangasinan represented by Governor Amado T. Espino, Jr.

Luistro said the department will seriously pursue the campaign to make the Palaro an environment-friendly event by requiring food caterers to dispense with plastic and styrofor in the preparation of meals. “We started this in Dipolog, Zamboanga last year, we will do it better this year,” said Luistro.

On another clean aspect, Luistro announced that the DepEd will ensure that athlete screening and games officiating will be clean and fair to all in keeping with the true spirit of the sporting event.

“The Palaro is a venue for values formation among our youth, this is where positive Filipino values should apply,” he explained.

Luistro added that the Palaro should not be made a once-a- year event but a continuing activity to really develop the athletic prowess and sportsmanship of the young. Likewise, the games venue should not be so constructed as to last for just a year. “It should be made to last for years so that many athletes can use it for a continuous sports program."


As stipulated in DepEd Memo No. 22 series of 2012, this year’s host of the annual national sporting event is the provincial government of Pangasinan and DepEd Regional Office 1 assisted by the schools division office of Pangasinan and the city schools division offices of San Carlos City and Dagupan City.

Luistro describes the Palaro as an important component of the basic education curriculum because it promotes physical education and sports which are part of the full development of the youth’s potential. “When we say total human development, we mean to develop persons who are physically fit, socially responsible and globally competitive,” he said.

DepEd has allocated some P136.5 million for this year’s Palaro. Most of the events will be played at the Narciso Ramos Sports Center in Lingayen while the rest will be in the cities of San Carlos and Dagupan and the towns of Bugallon and Binmaley. Some 10,000 athletes, coaches and sports officials from the country’s 17 regions are expected to participate in the country’s biggest sports spectacle.

Student –athletes who stand out from the Palaro serve as feeder to the National Sports Associations for further training for international competitions. “In a way, the results of the Palaro provide a database for a more sound and relevant school development program,” added Luistro.

The sporting events are athletics, arnis, badminton, baseball, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics (women’s artistic gymnastics, men’s artistic gymnastic and rhythmic gymnastics), sipa takraw, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball.

For the differently-abled, there is goalball, aquatics, bocce, long jump, shot put and 100, 200 and 400 meter dash.

The 2012 Palarong Pambansa is set from May 6 to 12, 2012 to be participated in by elementary and secondary students from public and private schools.
