Joining them is Governor Amado Espino of Pangasinan who have also received procured 2012 Palarong Pambansa equipment to the Provincial Government of Pangasinan for their sports academy program.

Universal Kindergarten Is Now A Law

During a press conference last February 27, 2012 at Malacañang Palace, that Republic Act 10157 is now a law. RA 10157 is also called Universal Kindergarten Law meaning that the Department of Education will institutionalize basic education and will be implemented in public schools.

Bro. Armin Luistro, Secretary of Education, emphasize that "quality education is for all children and no one should be left behind." Preschool education is just as important as school education because it builds up the foundations of learning. According to Bro. Armin, education is the key that leads to a strong society.

This is what the President and the DepEd Secretary envisioned that all public schools will have their own kindergarten by 2016 and people will be given opportunity to have their children take kindergarten classes regardless of income. In addition to that, the students will be equipped with knowledge of math, science and the mother tongue depending on the provincial dialect of the school's location.

 This just shows how important kindergarten schooling to everyone because this molds how we see life. No one says is better than Robert Fulghum. His book title says it all. I quote, "All I need to know in life, I learn in Kindergarten". According to Fulghum, you learn wisdom not in a graduate school but in the the pile of sand in a kindergarten sandbox. These lessons in life are, sharing, playing fair, don't hit people(this also applies in bullying), cleanliness, "Don't take things that aren't yours", "saying sorry...", washing hands before eating, "flush", "live a balanced life", "When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together", "Gold fish, hamsters, white mice and even the little seed in the tin can. They all die and so do we", and lastly, "...remember the Dick-and-Jane books and the first work you learn: LOOK".

DepEd opens special classes in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan

The Department of Education has made preparations for the opening of schools today in Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City after the Christmas break and in the aftermath of typhoon Sendong which devastated a big swatch of Northern Mindanao.

Education Secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC said however that some schools will not hold regular classes yet but instead use alternative delivery mode of lessons. In some schools, school heads will focus more on stress debriefing and play therapy in affected divisions. “We have to respond to the immediate needs of both teachers and students and for now, it is important that we introduce activities that will bring back normalcy in their lives,” the education chief said.

He added that DepEd is now making the final list of schools being used as evacuation centers. “We have agreed with our counterparts in the Department of Social Welfare and Development that if our schools are still needed by evacuees we will hold classes in temporary learning spaces including the use of tents provided by UNICEF, Plan International and Save the Children, among others. While there are shortages in tents, donations are still coming in.”

DepEd has also expressed its appreciation to parents, military, police, students, non-government organizations and evacuees themselves for helping in the cleanup of schools in order to prepare them for the holding of classes. ”What we see here is an off-season Brigada Eskwela where every concerned citizen pitches in to bring back order in schools and in the community.”

Meanwhile, Bishop Antonio Ledesma of Cagayan de Oro has offered his parish for temporary relocation while the Jesuit-run Xavier University said it has five hectares in Lumbia also for relocation. For its part, the local government of Cagayan de Oro has made available another 3. 5 hectares as relocation site.

“This is a welcome development and slowly, internally-displaced residents are moving on to rebuild lives in relocation sites,” said Luistro.

PRESS RELEASE : Distribution of teachers Christmas bonus almost complete

The Department of Education (DepEd) reports that the distribution of Productivity Enhancement Incentive (PEI) to public school teachers is proceeding well and expected to be completed by Friday.

“Our finance personnel are working round- the-clock to ensure that teachers have something to take home in time for Christmas,” said Education Secretary Armin Luistro. To ensure that teachers get their PEI before Christmas, DepEd already made initial preparations in anticipation of fund transfer from DBM.

As of Monday (December 19), reports from the field indicate that DepEd offices in Regions 1, 2, 7, Central Luzon (Region 3) and the Cordillera Administrative Region have completed payment of the bonus to teachers.

Education officials in Regions 4A, 5, 6, 11, and Caraga expect to complete payments today while public school teachers in Regions 4B, 9, and the National Capital Region (NCR) will receive their incentives by Tuesday (December 20).

Meanwhile other regions (8, 10, 11 and 12) are working hard to pay out the incentives before Friday.

“We are working closely with the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to remedy any cause for delay and to make sure problems are swiftly resolved,” Luistro said.

The P10,000 PEI is commonly referred to as the Christmas bonus.

Funds are transferred directly from DBM Regional Offices to DepEd’s implementing units. These are the central, regional, and division offices and some secondary schools that are authorized to manage funds released to them in accordance with DBM and Commission on Audit rules and regulations.

DepEd and Magnolia Teams Up For a Healthier Choice

It is essential for students to have healthier lives because it is being taught in schools especially from kinder to high school. But most of the time, this is not put to practice when school canteens serve cola drinks. Magnolia joins the Department of Education, in partnership with Mary Lindbert International, to campaign for healthier schooling by promoting Magnolia Healthy Drinks among students. It will start first with the schools in need then the campaign will spread throughout the country. As a formality, a memorandum of agreement was signed and witnessed in Ortigas, Pasig last Thursday, October 13 by National Sales Manager Mr. Manny Factor, Mr. Jun Medrano, Business Manager for NAB Mr. Bernard Marquez, DepEd Undersecretary Hon. Yolanda Quijano, Group Product Manager Ms. Cecile Caling, and Mr. Albert Rosal of Marylindbert.

DepEd and PAGCOR signed a MOA

October 5, 2011. Pasay City. World Teachers' Day is being observed and it would be a fitting occasion for Memorandum Of Agreement between the Department of Education and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporationthat will help address the acute deficiency of classrooms nationwide. 

The partnership of DepEd and PAGCOR will make way for new classrooms needed for this school year. DepEd will provide the fund for construction and PAGCOR will allocate the one billion pesos for the 1,000 classrooms for the next school year, 2011-2012.

Our constitution states that the people have a right of education. But there are a few who can afford that can finish their schooling. With this effort,this could lessen tuition fee increases and more students may able to afford to enroll.
