ADIDAS ORIGINALS BRINGS BACK THE STAN SMITH

Online media release

The iconic shoe is set to return in Spring/Summer 2014

A global fashion icon is reborn in Spring/Summer '14 as the legendary Stan Smith returns from its sabbatical. Removed from the shelves for the past few seasons, the classic silhouette has been re-invigorated and updated for the modern day, while still staying true to the look and shape of the original.

Since its debut as a tennis shoe, the Stan Smith has made its way from the tennis court to the street, becoming adidas' best-selling shoe of all time, with over 40 million pairs sold. American tennis icon Stan Smith began wearing what was the world's first ever leather tennis shoe in 1971, when he won the US Open on grass and the Davis Cup on clay with the American team. In 1972 he won Wimbledon wearing the classic adidas shoe.

Originally introduced and developed for the French tennis player Robert Haillet in the mid-1960s, the name of Stan Smith was added to the tennis shoe, alongside Haillet's, at the start of the 70s, before it was designated as the signature sneaker of the American sporting icon in 1972.

The Stan Smith is available in leading adidas and Urban Athletics stores in the Philippines this January 2014.

ADIDAS SIGNS NBA SUPERSTAR JEREMY LIN

Online release

PORTLAND, Ore. (January 6, 2014) – adidas today announced a partnership with NBA point guard Jeremy Lin of the Houston Rockets.

“I’m really excited to join the adidas family,” said Lin. “They’ve changed the game with new technology and style and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”

Lin joins the adidas basketball roster which includes teammate and seven-time NBA All-Star Dwight Howard and a lineup of elite point-guards highlighted by Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, John Wall of the Washington Wizards and Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers.

“Jeremy’s relentless drive, passion for the game and background of leading winning teams throughout his career makes him a perfect fit for the adidas brand,” said Chris Grancio, adidas head of global basketball sports marketing.

Unheralded as a high school player, undrafted from Harvard University and cut twice from NBA rosters, Lin made global headlines when he led the New York Knicks to an improbable seven game winning streak in February 2012. Dubbed “Linsanity,” his rise to stardom was fueled by elite playmaking ability and clutch shooting as he became the only NBA player in modern history to tally 20 points and seven assists in his first five starts.

The first Asian-American player in the NBA, Lin joined the Houston Rockets in 2012 and has helped them become one of the Western Conference’s top teams while averaging over 14 points, four assists and two rebounds per game this season.

Lin will be featured in a variety of upcoming adidas marketing initiatives and will play a role in the development of basketball footwear and apparel.

Other adidas athletes include WNBA MVP Candace Parker, FIFA World Player of the Year Lionel Messi FC Barcelona and six-time tennis Grand Slam singles champion Novak Djokovic.

Manila Bay Resorts to rise in 2015

The Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment, Inc., (a subsidiary of Universal Entertainment Corporation, led by Japanese tycoon Mr. Okada, Kazuo) developer of the ambitious Manila Bay Resorts project, proudly shared its lofty goals in line with the ongoing construction of the 44-hectare facility to rise within the Entertainment City complex in Paranaque City come 2015.

Top honchos president Masahiro Terada and vice president Kenji Sugiyama met with members of the press to share their ultimate vision for a huge and integrated resort with the three-hotel property (each a 15-storey-structure) bound to be home to the biggest casino in the country. The said Resort is touted as a natural, desirable addition to Manila Bay's cultural and commercial venues, with expectations of two plush hotels, a six-star and a five-star at that, and around 20 food and beverage destinations, retail and spa facilities, and residential properties.

"Our target is to really attract lots of people, local and foreigners, and in the process be of great help to the Philippine economy and employment," stated Sugiyama whose background includes being a world-class hotel asset protection chief.

With emphasis on providing high class, safe entertainment and recreational activities, Manila Bay Resorts promises to be a go-to destination among Filipino families, foreign tourists, and fun-loving individuals of exquisite taste. Its hiring initiative will more or less generate 15,000 employments for Filipino job-seekers.
The 30,000 sq.m-casino alone, to open 24/7 and expect 20,000 daily guests, will have more than 500 table games and 3,000 machines to offer, while its man-made beach resort will boast an impressively looking 100-meter diameter indoor Glass Dome.

Considering that the country is currently engulfed in earthquake scare brought by the 7.2 magnitude tremor that just shattered Bohol and neighboring provinces, the Japanese-standard construction being employed in Manila Bay Resorts obviously delivers great news to everyone. Japan is known as an earthquake hotspot, thus, the use of Japanese technology in strengthening the complex means more significant safety assurance.

Apart from hotel development, the Tiger, Inc. has also opened its doors to community involvement through the project, having helped the victims of recent typhoon Pablo by donating a rice supply worth Php 2.5 million. A new effort of similar nature is being spearheaded, this time to provide assistance to victims of the devastating earthquake in the Visayan region.

Sugiyama expressed in connection, "It is part of our mission to extend a helping hand to those in need."

The extent of wanting to make a positive impact to the country's economy is also embedded in Tiger's plan of giving tax contribution off its casino cash flow.

Believing that luxury signifies attention to detail, originality, exclusivity, and above all, quality, Manila Bay Resorts is seen as a state-of-the-art dream vision of producing more than a thousand spacious hotel suites, topnotch restaurants, world-class banqueting, 24-hour butler service, among others. There will also be a good blend of international luxury brands, jewelers, and specialty stores in three unique areas, including one called the "Jewel Square."

With ethos that echoes "anything in the spirit of fun," it is a place to change the face of entertainment in Asia.
