Greenhills COD 2014

Every year, I go to cover one of Metro Manila's longest running cosmopolitan tradition: The Christmas On Display by Greenhills Shopping Center. This display first started by COD in Cubao. When it ceased operation, the holiday tradition was continued today with the help of the original marionette designers.

The COD draws the crowd from the nearby areas and shoppers in the parking lot to watch the display. Besides the display, the Christmas tiangge is now open for your shopping needs and the snacks to enjoy while watching.

The annual COD launch is not just for show but it also gives back to the community. Every year, Ortigas and Company with the help of the local municipal government gives gifts to White Cross which is not far from the venue. White Cross is an NGO that housed abandoned children. Some of these children are abandoned after their birth.

The theme of the display is the first Christmas which is actually good to get back to where it all started since for the longest time, I've seen their futuristic theme and an ancient imperial Chinese theme. It's only flaw was that the Magi was never part of the Nativity event but on Epiphany.

The display is now ongoing every night from 6PM onward every 30 minutes until Epiphany which is January 6th. For more holiday updates, follow this blog or follow L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.

Christmas On Display (COD) 2012

Every Christmas season since my childhood days, I never miss an opportunity watching a lights and sound display of COD. After many years, I got to watch it again at Greenhills Shopping Center this year. This , the theme was Space Age.
Ceremonial light up

It was also my second time to cover the launch of COD this year. I am privilege to see part of my childhood once again. Besides the lights and sounds display, Greenhills Shopping Center gives presents to the less fortunate kids of White Cross. White Cross is an orphanage of kids that was abandoned as early as infancy.
Gifts for the children

What's new during the launch was that the Justice League-Ph and The Black Pearl Phils. and other independent cosplayers was able to give holiday cheers to the kids in their superhero and pirate costumes.
Distribution of gifts

Every half hour, the lights and sounds show starts and runs for about 10 minutes from 6PM onwards till 10PM. Besides the display, there's also holiday stalls at the park area facing the display. The display and the stalls is only until January 6, 2013.

Greenhills Shopping Center now staging their new lights and sound display show for the holiday season. Located at Parking 1, the Greenhills Christmas On Display(COD) will run every 15 minutes starting tonight, November 19 from 6PM to 11PM. The annual COD is a 58 year old Christmas tradition. It started in Cash On Delivery(where COD came from) at Cubao which has been drawing crowds for years until it closed down in 2003.

To keep the Filipino tradition alive, GSC management continues this tradition with light and sound effects and animated mannequins for kids and adults to enjoy. Even before the rise of the supermalls, Greenhills has always been a shopping destination. In addition of the Christmas On Display, the Greenhills' signature Christmas Night Market and Christmas Bangketa Fair for your Christmas rushes.

GSC invited the kids from White Cross Children's Home and the Department of Social Welfare and Development for a fun night with games and gift distribution during the launch.
