LARGEST INT’L DEBATE TILT TO BE HELD IN PHILIPPINES

Press release

The stage is set for the 5th DivinaLaw Philippine National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition on February 22 to 24, 2018 at the University of Santo Tomas.
Last year's winners: Ateneo De Manila University

The Jessup Competition is the world's largest and oldest moot court competition for law students that addresses timely issues of public international law in the context of a hypothetical legal dispute between nations.  This year, more than 100 countries joined the annual debate competition.

Nine teams from all over the Philippines will compete in this prestigious competition. These are: Ateneo de Manila University, Far Eastern University-Institute of Law, San Beda College-College of Law, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, Lyceum of the Philippines University-College of Law, and Saint Louis University.

Teams will be judged on both their written arguments and oral pleadings.

The champion will bring home P50,000, and the distinction to represent the country in the White & Case International Rounds in Washington D.C., USA on April 1 to 7, 2018.

Last year, the Ateneo de Manila University bested eight other teams in the national rounds, and represented the Philippines in the international rounds. The Philippines has won twice in the
International Jessup Cup: in 1995, represented by the University of the Philippines, and in 2004, with the Ateneo de Manila University.

The Jessup 2018 Philippine National Rounds is sponsored by DivinaLaw and hosted by the University of Santo Tomas, in partnership with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines and the Philippine Association of Law Schools.
