The Mind Museum Space Adventure Lifts Off

One of the things that make The Mind Museum unique is the fun in learning science. I first saw one of their touring exhibits from abroad which was Leonardo and recently Dinosaurs which is now being touring another country.

Space is considered the next frontier outside our planet as the pioneer sci-fi show Star Trek narrated in its introduction. Since the dawn of humankind, our ancestors are already drawn to the heavenly bodies. Today, kids and adults alike are still fascinated with what lies beyond our orbit.

The Mind Museum is now introducing their new roving exhibit titled Space Adventure. Not only that I am thrilled to go back but I am also curious what the stuff to do at the Space Adventure is. Tagging along with me for the Space Adventure are my partner and her two siblings.

There is an interesting part for me in this exhibit which is the future of exploration of nearby planets. Mars is the nearest planet to Earth and recently it was discovered that there is still water on the Martian surface. The roving exhibit shows the ideal future of manned exploration of the nearest planet and what kind of living environment we are going to have in another planet. There is an air lock since Mars don’t have breathable air, living quarters, etc. If you have seen the movie, The Martian, it is somehow close to that.

There is also one part of the exhibit that has different weighing scale which will calculate how much you will weigh on other planets of the Solar System The exhibit also have fun activities for kids like art activities and how to launch a homemade rocket.

What makes this roving museum convenient because it can tour anywhere. Not all can go to the Mind Museum since most of the schools are not from the Greater Metropolitan Manila area so it may tour beyond the region.

Go to The Mind Museum website to find out the schedule of the Space Adventure roving museum. You can also tour the regular Mind Museum exhibit along with the Space Adventure. For more updates of The Mind Museum, follow this blog and like L.E.N.S. blogs on Facebook.

Press release

Filipino youth join NEC World Children’s Nature Club

NEC Philippines CFO, Harry Salas, with children, teachers, and volunteers at the NEC World Children’s Nature Club

Manila, Philippines, 18 April 2018 - NEC and the KEEP Foundation hosted an environmental education program called “NEC World Children’s Nature Club” from March 24th to March 26th at TALA Guesthouse, Baguio City. Using Skype, youth participants from Indonesia, Taiwan, China, Japan, the Philippines, and Malaysia were able to interact, exchange views, and share insights with one another.

Held annually since 2008 to study the potential of applying ICT to environmental education, this program is designed to train children’s awareness of the natural environment and create a global perspective.

For their first day, NEC Philippines CFO, Harry Salas, spent time with children, teachers, and volunteers from the Cordillera Green Network (CGN) and shared NEC’s Make-a Difference Day* activities and then went on to explore the nature around Benguet province. The children were greeted by other participants from China in the afternoon via video call. They excitedly exchanged information from their outdoor activities and ended the day with singing.

The next day, Hector Kawalig, CGN Project Coordinator, invited renowned Ifugao natives Gilbert and Billy Gano to teach children basic wood carving, one of the traditions of an indigenous ethnolinguistic group in the Cordilleras – the Ifugao people. The Ganos were the ones who sought and found alternative ways to continue the tradition of wood carving without harming the environment. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed themselves carving stones, driftwood, and fallen trees.
