Make Your Date of the Supernatural Kind with Being Human on AXN Beyond

Brand New Drama Series Premieres Two Weeks After US Debut

Anyone who has had housemates, would know how easy it is to get on each others’ nerves without even trying. Yet, the companionship and listening ear of an understanding housemate can get you through the roughest of days. But what if your housemate isn’t even human to begin with?
Premiering February 2, 2011 and airing every Wednesday at 9pm first and exclusively on AXN Beyond, Being Human follows three 20-something housemates – vampire Aidan (Sam Witwer, Battlestar Galactica), ghost Sally (Meaghan Rath, 15/Love, The Assistants) and werewolf Josh (Sam Huntington, Superman Returns) – for whom leading normal lives is a lot harder than it looks. The paranormal trio shares not just a Boston brownstone, but also each others’ secrets, and together, navigate the complexities of living double lives.

Being Human’s premiere on AXN Beyond marks a breakthrough in the speed that new US drama series reach Asian shores. From an average 6 – 8 months gap for most American TV series, Being Human is coming to Asia after just two weeks of its premiere in the US. This represents a unique opportunity for viewers in the region to enjoy a fresh American drama without the long wait, first and exclusively on AXN Beyond.

Being Human is a re-imagining of the acclaimed UK drama series of the same title created by Toby Whithouse. The original Being Human won the ‘Best Television Drama Series’ honour at the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Awards in November 2010.
By turns frightening, witty, and romantic, Being Human explores what it means to be human through the eyes of three outsiders.
Aidan was a Revolutionary War soldier who sacrificed himself to vampires to spare his men. Now, some 260 years later, he is still struggling to escape the clutches of his charismatic, yet menacing and powerful mentor, Bishop (Mark Pellegrino, Lost, Supernatural). Josh was a promising medical student forced to abandon his family and future after a werewolf attack left him cursed with uncontrollable, beastly transformations each month. And Sally, happily engaged before her tragic accidental death in her new home, must now figure out how to move on as a ghost.
As the trio learn that there are fates worse than death, they also realise that there is more to life – and the afterlife – than most "normal" humans could ever imagine.

In the US, Being Human debuted 17 January on primetime cable TV to almost 2 million viewers and has become the TV network’s most-watched, winter-launched scripted drama since 2005. The series also garnered positive reviews from the media, notably an accolade from the San Francisco Chronicle: “While the actors are attractive and the performances winning, what will make viewers come back to Being Human is the thematic base of wanting to fit in with a world that can't begin to understand you.”

Allow Aidan, Josh and Sally into your home every Wednesday night, and watch their fates play out in Being Human, only on AXN Beyond.

Movie Review: The Rite

Hopkins and Donoghue(Photo courtesy of Warner Bros. Phils.)
Plot: Skeptic seminarian Michael Kovak(Colin O' Donoghue) was immersed in the dark side of his faith. Inspired by true events.

Review: The movie's post production especially the sound effect contributing for the thrill for the story. It does not have much special effects but it worked well to make it scary. Although, I still consider The Exorcist the scariest when in comes to movies about demonic possessions. Colin O' Donoghue was a good choice since he was not a familiar actor yet but it helps focusing on the story not on the actor if ever it was played by a more famous actor. This is what I expect from Anthony Hopkins, who plays Father Lucas. But you can expect the same kind of tone like Hannibal Lecter. The Rite Opens in February 2 and is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.

Background: There was no word for exorcism in Jesus' time. It came from a Latin word, exorcismus, meaning binding by oath. It was not the word that clearly describes what Jesus first documented except casting out demons which is what exorcists do. It was debatable though that if ever the victims were clearly possessed or what psychologists believe was a delusional state. But it was clear that there were cases of demonic possessions in history. Most may not believe it still happens in this digital era that we live in even for Christians themselves doubt the existence of the Devil that Christianity warned about. It was debatable about the topic because there were no psychologist during Jesus' time. But now, religion and science have no conflict whatsoever in the subject in particular. I don't blame Michael Kovak to feel that way about the subject. He has experiences that proved otherwise. I think this movie is also favorable to the Roman Catholics and those who believes that there is a conflict in the spiritual realm. Regardless whether you believe or not, there were documented reports about demonic possessions recorded by non-clergy.

Documented case of demonic possession in the city of Manila: There was a news back in the 70's or 80's about a person(can't recall the gender) that was claimed was possessed by a demon. Psychologists and priests can't do anything to cure the person until a foreign preacher named Lester Sumrall. He went and prayed for the person which resulted to an actual exorcism. Word spread out about what happened and Lester Sumrall was rewarded with a piece of land property where he based his church named Cathedral of Praise now stands.
