ASIAN PREMIERE OF BRITISH CHOREOGRAPHER’S MURAKAMI – INSPIRED WORKS AT THE PETA THEATER CENTER THIS OCTOBER

Manila, Philippines – Bestsellers like Haruki Murakami’s “Norwegian Wood” have long inspired film, tv and theater adaptations worldwide – but dance? Touted as a “rising star” by Britains’ national daily, the Independent, British choreographer James Cousins dared to.

British Council, PETA Theater Center and the Cultural Center of the Philippines are delighted to present the Asian premiere of British choreographer James Cousins’ contemporary dance works: the highly-acclaimed There We Have Been and its sequel Without Stars.  Shows are on Thursday, October 9 (8pm) and Friday, October 10 (3pm and 8pm) at the PETA Theater Center. The twin-bill production will next tour Malaysia and Vietnam this year.

There We Have Been focuses on the first half of Murakami’s novel, wherein two dancers enact the development of relationships between the novel’s protagonist and his late best friend's girlfriend. This duet sees English performers Aaron Vickers and Lisa Welham intensely folding, wrapping and balancing, with the female character never once touching the floor.

Without Stars tells the other half of the story. Framed from the male protagonists’ point of view, the piece for three dancers tells the story of a man on the brink of losing the life of his love.  The dance piece features international contemporary dancers Albert Garcia (Spain), Chihiro Kawasaki (Japan) and Georges Hann (UK).

James Cousins trained at the London Contemporary Dance School (LCDS), graduating in 2010 with a first class honors degree. As a performer, major highlights of his career are dancing for the international tour and film adaptation of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake and performing for the 2012 film Anna Karenina starring Keira Knightley and Jude Law.

As a choreographer, Cousins has created numerous works that have been performed throughout London and abroad to great acclaim. In August 2011, he became the first winner of the inaugural Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures Choreographer Award. There We Have Been was the resulting showcase piece from the said award.

Cousins’ twin bill production is a proof of arts’ capacity to inspire more art, bridging cultures through creativity and talent.

Tickets are Php 450.00. For tickets contact Ticket World at 891-999 or Ticketworld.com or contact the PETA Theater Center at 725 - 6244, 0915-4933728 or email peta.theatercenter@gmail.com

Filipino defense takes the spotlight as Gilas Pilipinas battles Asia’s best in Incheon

Press release material

#LabanKungLaban spirit lives on as Pinoys, Conzace fuel PH’s quest for elusive Asiad gold

Fresh from the rousing success of notching the Philippines’ first win in 40 years in the FIBA World Cup, Gilas Pilipinas takes on yet another formidable task as it squares up against Asia’s elite basketball squads at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Photo caption: Gilas Pilipinas center June Mar Fajardo (with possession) secures the ball against a member of the Indian squad in Tuesday’s 2014 Asian Games action in Incheon, South Korea. Fajardo scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds to help steer Gilas Pilipinas to an 85-76 win over India.
Focus immediately shifted on how Gilas Pilipinas’ defensive tenacity will translate to wins and eventually advance the entire nation’s dreams of capturing a gold medal at the Asian Games. This came shortly after the Filipino squad kicked off their Asiad campaign with an 85-76 demolition of India last Tuesday. Once again, the team showcased its patented #LabanKungLaban defense, as it torched the opposition from the opening buzzer and never looked back until the final seconds of the match to book its first win.

Defense has become the name of the game for Gilas Pilipinas, a team that has kept its eyes on regaining basketball supremacy in Asia. The players’ resilience and strong desire to win has been on full display every time they take on the court with the words “Pilipinas” emblazoned across their chests. They have also been very thankful for the inspiration and all-out support they’ve been getting from legions of Filipinos all over the world who continue to rally behind them in their quest for basketball greatness.

In behalf of the team, Marc Pingris sincerely extends his gratitude for the all out support that the team has been getting from everyone. “Gusto ko po pala magpasalamat sa inyo, sa suporta niyo, at sa pagppray niyo at sinamahan niyo kami sa laro namin. Mabuhay kayo! Maraming maraming salamat po mula sa puso. Thank you.”

For the Gilas team, the limelight belongs to the crowd who has ever been supportive of their games. Head Coach of Gilas Pilipinas Chot Reyes says, “Sa ating mga taga subaybay at taga suporta sa Gilas at sa lahat ng mga Pilipino, maraming maraming salamat.”

However, the players’ ability to keep dishing their A-games day in, day out now faces a serious threat as back-breaking playing schedules and rigid training regimens take a toll on their health. What keeps them in tiptop condition and motivated to keep fighting, aside from the overwhelming support of millions of basketball-crazy Filipinos, is the overall superior immunity protection they’ve been getting from Conzace multivitamins.

Proven better than just Vitamin C, Conzace helps strengthen Gilas Pilipinas players’ defense against illness by activating the body’s immunity cells to combat viruses and bacteria.

Gilas Pilipinas believes that great defense can make all difference in winning against opponents, a virtue that it shares together with Conzace multivitamins. With this in mind, we can all surely expect that our boys in Incheon will come out ready to brandish their signature #LabanKungLaban defense as they protect the one thing that keeps them fighting: every Filipino’s heart.

Introducing: G.I. Jane Collection by BUM

Product release material

MANILA, Philippines – On Monday, September 22, BUM Equipment will unveil its launching of G.I. (Girl It’s) Jane collection named after one of its youth brand ambassador Jane Oineza, who is fresh from her successful third finish in a recently concluded Pinoy Big Brother All In Edition, a hit reality show of ABS-CBN Channel 2.

BUM’s move to provide Oineza with a collection named after her does not just spotlight the young star’s crowd-drawing potentials, but as an inspiration to the youth of today to be uniquely strong and brave amidst any criticism.

There are two categories for this particular collection—The Statement Shirts and the Skater Tops with Skirts.

Jane Oineza’s Statement Shirts
Once there was this quote that perfectly describes Jane, “It’s hard to be yourself in a world that wants you to be like them.” But when she was just one of the housemates, she was brave enough to hold onto what she strongly believed in. Thus, the statement shirts were born.
The statement shirts texts will read: ‘I am Misunderstood’, ‘I’m Real’, and ‘I am Stronger’, respectively and are all printed on black shirts. These speaks of Oineza’s transformation for the past months, which truly defines ‘who’ she is as an individual, as a young talented celebrity.
Oineza, being a youth brand ambassador is a reflection of a young woman who is brave enough to face all the critics and stay true to herself, no matter what.
This collection will be the first one to come out in the market on the said mentioned date and can be purchased at all BUM boutiques nationwide.

Jane’s Skater Tops and Skirts
Being a young lady, apart from being a celebri-TEEN, she prefers the preppy look. Jane is the ideal image who projects that aura of a ‘privileged’ lifestyle. She stays simple and fresh-looking with her choice of clothing combining it with the accessories without overpowering her real personality, that’s what she is.

As young lady who just blossomed after celebrating her 18th birthday inside the PBB House, Jane Oineza along with BUM, a thriving brand apparel is launching three variants of skater tops and skirts under the G.I. Jane collection as well.

Though black in theme, the Skater Skirts comes in three designs; black skull print, white skull print and diamond pattern print. While G.I. Jane skater tops are spandex long sleeves with accentuations to differ one tops from the other. These items can be bought in pairs or can be bought separately.

The said girly-themed collection will soon be available in November this year. Also, these will be exclusively available in all SM department stores.

Jane Thoughts on these Collections.

“I am excited with the collection. And it truly is me. It spells out who I am on and off camera,” Jane shares.

The collections are something that any young lady would grab and own several pieces because of its message and the design. The G.I. Jane collections do not just reflect Jane’s personality but can be identifiable by any female growing up in the world of ‘peer pressures’ and stay committed to her ideals and do not conform to the standards dictated of the ‘world’ around her.

“I do hope that even with the line of clothing via BUM, I can be a living testimony to girls out there to standout and not just be one of the many girls corrupted by any sort of ideals.”

To know more about BUM latest collection-- G.I. Jane, visit its social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram via @officialbumph or visit its official website www.bumequipment.com.ph.

Nik Wallenda, “The King of the Highwire” is back at it again. This time, he is heading to the historic windy city of Chicago to attempt his most audacious and challenging tightrope walk yet. And like the legendary Wallenda family tradition, he will do it all without a net or harness.  SKYSCRAPER LIVE WITH NIK WALLENDA will air *LIVE* globally in over 220 countries on Monday, November 3 from 8.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m. (MNL), exclusively on Discovery Channel.

In June 2013, Nik became the first person to ever successfully traverse the Grand Canyon on a tightrope. The live broadcast shattered ratings records peaking with 13 million viewers, making it Discovery’s highest-rated live event ever; and generated 1.3 million Tweets, ranking it as the most social show across all broadcast and cable networks in the US. The special was also recently honoured with an Interactive Emmy® for Multi-platform Storytelling for its companion website, which featured compelling video, 360-degree interactive views, backstage moments, real-time social updates and many other digital elements.

Fans and viewers across the globe, including those in Southeast Asia, will also be able to witness Nik’s upcoming walk via a *LIVE* streaming multi-platform companion experience on www.DiscoveryChannelAsia.com. Several cameras which will be attached to Nik, will provide viewers multiple *LIVE* raw angles of the walk as it happens. To stay updated on the walk, visit www.DiscoveryChannelAsia.com and facebook.com/DiscoverySEAsia.

“Discovery Channel delivers the most talked-about series and live events on television,” said Marjorie Kaplan, Group President of Discovery Channel, TLC and Animal Planet. "We are excited about shifting from the natural backdrop of the Grand Canyon to the urban environment of Chicago. It is an iconic American city that presents a number of extreme conditions and challenges that Nik has yet to attempt on such a grand scale.”

Dozens of cameras will be positioned across the city and on helicopters – rolling as Nik attempts this nail-biting, two-part walk at night time in one of the windiest sections of Chicago. With unpredictable weather conditions, the tightrope crossing will present countless obstacles.

For the first part of the tightrope crossing, Nik will walk further than two city blocks – uphill rising to a 15-degree angle – from the iconic Marina City's west tower to the Leo Burnett Building at more than 50 stories high above the Chicago River.  Not only will this be the highest skyscraper walk in the history of the “Flying Wallenda” family, it will be the first time that he has ever attempted it at such a steep angle. The second part of the walk will span from the Marina City's west tower to the east tower.

“This is going to be the most incredible tightrope walk of my career,” said Nik.  “I can’t think of a better city to do it.  I have fond memories of spending time performing in Chicago and the Midwest with my family. Besides, it’s the ‘Windy City’ and there’s nothing like doing this during winter in Chicago. That’s a challenge for me and I love to push myself to do things that most people think are impossible.”

A seventh-generation member of famed “Flying Wallenda’s,” Nik began performing with his family as a toddler and made his first professional tightrope walk at just 13 years old.  He hopes this latest feat will inspire others to go after their dreams and dedicates it to his family, particularly his great-grandfather, the legendary Karl Wallenda, who died after falling from a tightrope in Puerto Rico in 1978.

Nik will be joined in Chicago by his wife and three children, his close friends and an engineering team led by his father Terry Troffer.

“I’m always looking for the next major hurdle and doing something that the world has never seen,” said Nik.  “I want my family to be there to see history in the making.  And feel comforted knowing that they’ll be praying along with me.”

SKYSCRAPER LIVE WITH NIK WALLENDA is produced by Peacock Productions for Discovery with Gretchen Eisele, Colleen Halpin, Knute Walker, Benjamin Ringe and Betsy Wagner serving as executive producers.  Sharon Scott is President and GM of Peacock Productions.  Howard Swartz serves as executive producer for Discovery.  Other Executive Producers include Nik Wallenda, David Simone, Winston Simone and Shelley Ross.
