The Life, Art and Times of Damian Domingo book launch

The Life, Art and Times of Damian Domingo by Luciano P.R. Santiago
When we think of pioneers of Philippine art, the names Juan Luna and Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo comes to mind. But in the early 1800s, there was already another Filipino making a name for himself before Luna or Hidalgo. His name was Damian Domingo. Damian Domingo was an acclaimed portraitist and was commissioned by government officials who carried his works to Spain. Little is known about this Filipino master. Only few of his paintings survived. At first, he was mistaken for a Spanish mestizo or full-blooded Spaniard because of his respected position as director of the first Philippine art academy. It was only over the past two decades that new information that shed light about Domingo's life.
Damian Domingo

Researcher and author Luciano P.R. Santiago spent years combing through archives and records, where he found the artist's last will and testament, revealing that he was actually a Chinese mestizo. All this information and contemporaries, artwork and more is included in the book, The Life, Art and Times of Damian Domingo. The book was launched last December 9, 2010 at Ayala Museum and is published by Vibal Foundation. The Life, Art and Times of Damian Domingo is also part of Vibal's Arte Filipino art series. For e-books, orders, and other information, you can also check Vibal Foundation website. The book is in hardcover and it costs PhP2900.00 or $68.00.

SPi's Vegas-themed Christmas Party and 30th Aniiversary

December 18, 2010. SMX Convention Center. I was invited to attend as a guest to SPi Global Christmas party. I was surprised that they occupied the whole second level function rooms.SPi Global is an outsourcing company.  I also found out that SPi's branches nationwide are all represented that explains the big venue. I also know a blogger who works for SPi who explained to me what does he do for SPi. He works at Mandaluyong office that outsourcing people for customer service and technical support. 30 years of a company shows that SPi has prospered since then and is an established institution. SPi Global also knows how to P-A-R-T-Y. Vegas style. Even their bosses was able to give a show. Not because they are in charge but they really were entertaining. Each branch had their own presentations that rocked the whole house. My hat's off to the organizers. It wasn't easy planning this one. But this only means they are giving back some boosts to the SPi family for as the year ends and look forward to another year.

Manila, Philippines, 18 December 2010. SPi Global celebrates the holidays and its 30th anniversary at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
SPi Global, the largest Filipino-owned Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company with offices and facilities across North America, Europe and Asia, recently celebrated its 30th year at the SMX Convention Center.  The company has over 14,000 employees delivering a wide range of Knowledge Process, Customer Relationship and Health Information Management outsourcing services.

SPi Global’s 8,000 employees from their 8 Luzon site flocked to the country’s largest convention center to celebrate their largest Holiday party ever. Their Dumaguete and Iloilo site had their own set of celebrations held earlier this month.

SPi Global CEO and President Maulik Parekh expressed his excitement and optimism with his statement, “There are so many reasons for SPi Global to celebrate 2010.  It was an important year for us as we built a strong foundation for the future growth of the company. We started the year with the goal of integrating two strong and complementary organizations – SPi Technologies and ePLDT Ventus, bringing together recognized expertise in Knowledge Process, Customer Relationship Management and Health Information Management Services. We successfully launched our new brand name SPi Global, as an acknowledged member of the PLDT group of companies.

Parekh further said that SPi Global is positioned as the biggest Filipino owned BPO with global presence and also the only BPO company in the country that provides end-to-end high-value service in both voice and non-voice touch points.

Parekh added, “Today, we are celebrating 30 years of commitment to excellence in delivering end-to-end outsourcing solutions worldwide. We are proud to have been recognized numerous award giving bodies.” SPi Global was recently named as leader in Print and Publishing Outsourcing by the Black Book of Outsourcing; as Employer of Choice & Top Employer of the Year by the Social Security System; and won the Non-Voice Excellence of the Year Award in the International ICT Awards.

“Our 30th year in the industry was a good one and we are looking forward to an even better 2011 in terms of growth and expansion for SPi Global,” Parekh said.

About SPi Global SPi Global is one of the world’s largest and most diversified Knowledge Process Outsource and Customer Relationship Management service providers in the industry in terms of clients, geographic presence, and capabilities with more than 14,000 dedicated employees globally, serving more than 500 clients worldwide.  It is also the largest Filipino-owned BPO company housing 11,000 employees in the Philippines.

Blued: Live (and Wear) the College Dream

In 1991, a thesis by Ateneo Business Management students was inpired by the casual clothing brand named Blued.  Blued goes back to its university roots to search for the rising new breed of stylepreneurs.

The Blued Project
A Metro Manila-wide inter-university competition. Each university entry will be pre-selected by a panel of
judges. FInalists shall present their designs in an exclusive public fashion event. The winning team will be based o strength of marketing and wearability of design. Winners will launched their very own fashion line and clinch an exclusive on-the-job training with Blued.

Press Release:
Remember college – when life was simple, fuss-free, and cool?

Those were the days when the world just revolved around classes, the never-ending homework, hanging out with friends at your favorite haunt, cheering your school team at the top of your voice (and risking a hoarse throat the next day), meeting froshies at the annual college acquaintance party, your trips out of the city (or if you’re lucky, the country) for your immersion projects, late nights at coffee shops finishing your thesis, and comatose-ing with your study group on pizza after acing the finals.  The list goes on actually – but simply put, life then was just a carefree joyride.

However, just because college is long over and gone doesn’t mean you can’t live (or re-live) its simple, casual days. Local clothing brand Blued lets you experience the college life once again with its timeless and classic styles that bring you back to those good old days of youthful fun.

Staying true to the spirit of clean, casual, and classic looks, Blued has remained the same fresh, uncomplicated clothing brand which was borne out of a college thesis 19 years ago.

“Blued has forever been faithful to the vibrant, preppy, and young college lifestyle,” says Benzon Tan, President of Blued. “Our collections always reflect our inspiration and we’re proud of our heritage as a purveyor of casual and classic styles.”
And part of the brand’s upcoming campaign is going back to its beginnings, which is the exciting college setting. With Blued’s newest plan entitled “The Blued Project,” the clothing brand is giving college students the chance of a lifetime to land a fashion-slash-business immersion.

The campaign is a cattle call for all university students to formulate an award-winning fashion design and marketing campaign for the brand. A team campaign will be chosen to represent each school, which will then compete for the coveted prize: an on-the-job immersion in Blued Clothing, which will culminate with the launch of their very own Blued Clothing line for the season.
“19 years ago, Blued started off as a business management thesis by a group of visionary collegians,” reminisces Tan. “This time, we want to give the new breed of stylish entrepreneurs a chance to realize their fashionable dreams.”

With Blued, the cool, casual college lifestyle doesn’t have to end at graduation.

NO SMALL JOBS FOR JACK BLACK

Jack Black in Gulliver's Travels
Jack Black stars in the heartwarming family 3D comedy “Gulliver’s Travels” as Lemuel Gulliver, a very imaginative clerk in a newspaper’s mailroom who dreams of being a travel writer someday.  Black’s Lemuel Gulliver, is a small man in a big pond -- the monstrous canyons of Manhattan, where he toils in a clerical position at a newspaper. He talks a big game, but he’s achieved very little because he is always afraid he will fail. After Gulliver convinced the travel editor Darcy (Amanda Peet) for whom he has a long-time crush into an assignment writing about the Bermuda Triangle, he goes there only to be transported to an undiscovered land, Lilliput.
In this fantastical new world, Gulliver is, at last, a bigger-than-life figure -- in size and ego – especially after he starts telling tall tales, taking credit for his world’s greatest inventions, and placing himself at the center of its most historic events.  But when Gulliver loses it all and puts the Lilliputians in peril, he must find a way to undo the damage.
Ultimately, Gulliver becomes a true giant among men only when he learns that it’s how big you are on the
inside that counts.  Jack Black further narrates in the following q&a on filming Gulliver’s.
Q:         What is your character Gulliver like?
A:         “He’s always aspiring for something bigger and better. But he doesn’t have the courage to put himself out there. Fear is his obstacle. But once he gets to Lilliput, he’s like a king.  In New York, Gulliver feels really small and wants to do big things, but he’s afraid to make it happen.  When he lands in Lilliput, he starts to feel really big, but it’s a feeling based on false pretenses.”
Q:         Are you familiar with the book when you were a kid?
A:         “I was fond of the story when I was a kid.  But I never read the unabridged version back then; it’s pretty dense material.  It’s only fairly recently that I read the actual book. Once they offered it to me, I said yes, and then I read the book and it was a double yes.”
Q:         How did you adapt the movie for this generation?
A:         “There is a lot of material in the book that didn’t make it into the movie because there are some very spicy passages.  It gets pretty violent and graphic. The original piece is not really for kids; it was a satire for adults.”
Q:         Has having children changed you?
A:         “It is extremely rewarding and challenging. They are magical creatures and I love them to death. You need to spend time with them. You can’t just go and work on the computer—you need to give them attention and listen to them and play with them and those crazy pretending games take a lot of energy.”
Q:         In the movie, Gulliver relished much fame, are you like him?
A:        “It is always fun to meet new people who have enjoyed my work. Sometimes it can be exhausting if you have had a long day and what would take one minute ends up taking an hour because you have to sign pictures and talk to people but for the most part it is very gratifying. I like it because I am always being thanked and high fived, there is a lot of positivity coming my way.”
Black who also serves as the movie’s executive producer will soon be seen in “Kung Fu Panda 2,” “The Big Year” and “Bernie.”  His numerous hit movies include “School of Rock,” “Tropic Thunder,” “Nacho Libre,” “King Kong,” “Bob Roberts,” “High Fidelity,” “Saving Silverman,” “Shallow Hal,” “Orange County, “Envy,” “Shark Tale,” “The Holiday,” 2000’s independent drama “Jesus’ Son” and “Margot at the Wedding.”
“Gulliver’s Travels” opens January 8 in (Phils.) theaters from 20th Century Fox to be distributed by Warner Bros.

A Doggies’ Choice Healthy Lifestyle

Dogs are considered man's, or to be inclusively speaking, human's best friend. If that's the case, dogs should be given amount of care and responsibility that should not be taken for granted. Because having a pet is not just for their welfare but also for our own care too. Owning a pet also comes with risks and responsibility. There may be dangers that not only affect our pets but also us humans. Taking care of pets may also reflect how we take care of ourselves too. This is where Doggies' Choice fit in the picture.

Pets like dogs and cats are risky when it comes to mange (Galis) infestations. Mange is caused by parasitic mites that embed themselves in hair follicles or skin depending on their type. My friend's cat died because of mange and it doesn't even goes out of the house till it had a check up with the veterinarian. Mange does not only affects pets but also the human owners. Doggies' Choice offers their anti-mange shampoo and soap.

Besides this, Doggies's Choice also offers other products for our pets and its surroundings. The shampoo is ideal for long haired types. The powdered products are ideal for pets in between baths. The soap products has sulfur that takes care of the pets' skin just like to us humans. What's original about Doggies' Choice is Madre de Cacao. It has been used to help prevent skin irritations and it's an original Pinoy product.  Can also be used for cats on smaller dosages and it is BFAD approved. Doggies' Choice assures that their products are in low toxicity. Available in supermarkets, drugstores, and pet shops. For updates and more info, like Doggies' Choice on Facebook.
